METRO EXTENSION & SKYMETRO

Several projects are currently underway to extend the Genova metro system, with approximately €240 million in funding allocated for their development:

  • Extension from Brin to Canepari, in Val Polcevera, featuring a 600-meter surface-level section and a new station in the Certosa district (works in an advanced stage).
  • Extension from Brignole to Martinez, covering approximately 550 meters above ground, reaching the San Fruttuoso and Terralba districts (works initiated).
  • New underground station at Piazza Corvetto (works in progress).
  • Extension from Canepari to Pallavicini, with a 500-meter surface-level section reaching the Rivarolo district (design phase in progress).
  • Pedestrian connection between Martinez Station and Piazza Terralba, along with a new parking facility (design phase in progress).

New metro extension projects are currently in the planning phase:

  • Towards San Martino, a district hosting one of Italy's most important hospitals, with a 1,800-meter underground section extending east of Martinez Station and featuring two new stations.
  • Towards Fiumara (Sampierdarena district in the western part of the city), with a 2,700-meter extension and four new stations.

SKYMETRO – METRO LINE IN VAL BISAGNO

The Skymetro project envisions an elevated metro line in Val Bisagno, funded with €400 million, to provide a more efficient and direct connection between the valley and the city center. The dual-track line will serve the area with a fast public transport system, extending from the new "Brignole Sant’Agata" station to "Molassana", covering a total length of 6.9 km.

The project includes five intermediate stations:

  • Stadio Marassi
  • Parenzo
  • Staglieno
  • Ponte Carrega
  • San Gottardo

These stations are spaced at an average distance of 1.15 km.

The new metro route initially runs along the right bank of the Bisagno River, starting from "Brignole Sant’Agata", which will be accessible via a pedestrian bridge from the nearby Brignole railway station. It then crosses to the left bank via a single-span bridge near the Ferraris Stadium before continuing north to the final station in Molassana.
