Inauguration of the New East Wing of Genoa Airport
On March 17th, 2025, Genoa Airport inaugurated its new east wing, which will be accessible to passengers starting March 19th. This project, which required an investment of 15 million euros and 18 months of work, marks a significant advancement for the Ligurian airport.
The new area, covering 5,500 square meters, includes 550 square meters dedicated to a modern commercial area with Duty Free and a multiproduct retail outlet. Four security control lines equipped with state-of-the-art machinery for automatic baggage inspection, three new boarding gates, 250 seats (one in three with power outlets for electronic devices), and a climate-controlled boarding pier with direct access to the apron and an elevator to access the runway have been installed.
One of the main innovations concerns the four new security control lines, which, thanks to tomographic machines, more precise and efficient, do not require the extraction of electronic devices and liquids from luggage and halve control times. This technology is already present in major Italian airports, such as Rome, Milan, Venice, and Bologna.
The new east wing allows Cristoforo Colombo Airport to increase its capacity to up to 3 million passengers and represents the first step of a broader restyling plan. With an additional investment of 12.6 million euros and a year and a half of work, the airport will be completely redesigned by the end of 2026, offering travelers a high-quality travel experience.
This inauguration marks a significant moment for Genoa Airport, which continues to grow and improve its services to meet the needs of passengers and airlines.
