MIPIM: at the Cannes fair to show Genova’s growth to investors and industry professionals

11/03/2025

ACTING MAYOR PIETRO PICIOCCHI: "We are showcasing the material and immaterial infrastructures that strengthen the characteristics of an increasingly international city."

From March 11 to 14, the City of Genova will participate in MIPIM (Marché International des Professionnels de l'Immobilier) in Cannes, France, the premier international real estate, territorial development, and urban regeneration fair. Genova will have a dedicated desk within the ICE – Italian Trade Agency stand, located in the Italy Pavilion.

"For Genova, this is a crucial showcase to reaffirm its role as a Mediterranean and European hub," says Acting Mayor Pietro Piciocchi. "Through connections, infrastructure, and major projects, the city is enhancing its international appeal, making it increasingly attractive to Genoese residents, as well as to Italian and foreign investors in the commercial, tourism, hospitality, port, cruise, technology, and professional sectors. Additionally, Genova is positioning itself as a university city, appealing to young people."

For young people, new social and cultural spaces are planned, including:

  • The reopening of the Teatro Verdi in Sestri Ponente
  • The renovation of the former Cinema in Molassana
  • The House of Emerging Technologies in Pra’, housed in a repurposed former railway station
  • The Factory of Ideas, a hub for innovative startups
  • School renovation projects and the opening of a new state technological high school in Val Polcevera

"This focus on young people is part of a broader urban regeneration process already well underway," continues Acting Mayor Pietro Piciocchi. *"This includes the Levante Waterfront, envisioned by architect Renzo Piano, aimed at reconnecting the city with the sea. The project features a new sports arena, an urban park with 4,000 trees, and a boating district. Major funded projects include the Skymetro, the new metro stations extending towards Val Polcevera (Brin-Canepari section) and Levante (Brignole-Piazza Martinez section) to promote sustainable mobility. Additionally, significant investments are being made in high-speed rail connections, the new Genoa railway hub, the Terzo Valico project, the new breakwater, neighborhood regeneration, and the enhancement of the hinterland, including the network of fortifications and outdoor tourism.

These ambitious, sustainable, and inclusive projects will not alter Genoa’s historical identity or its artistic and scenic heritage but will instead reinforce its strengths, adapting them to modern needs for residents, businesses, and tourists. This is the city we want to showcase at MIPIM."*
