The complex, built at the beginning of the 19th century, historically precedes the birth of the Lagaccio district, one of the most urbanized and populated areas of the city. After the acquisition by the Municipality, the UNaLab Eu project, in collaboration with LAND, has planned the creation of a new urban park for the community.
New green areas and gathering spaces strengthen the relationship with the upper part of the neighborhood. The NBS solutions adopted increased the climate resilience of this area.

An authentic symbol of Genoa, fascinating, liveable, safe and clean: this is the final goal of the Historic Centre "Caruggi" Plan, the integrated project for the enhancement and regeneration of the historical centre of Genoa launched in November 2020.
A total of 184 actions are planned across the 10 operational axes, distributed over the three “sestieri” (Prè, Molo and Maddalena) and articulated into projects focused on:

Palazzo Galliera, owned by S.P.Im. S.p.A., is a historic building dating back to the 19th century, located in the heart of Genoa, near Via Garibaldi, between Palazzo Tursi and Palazzo Bianco. Originally a private residence, it stands on a site of great historical value: the ancient Church of San Francesco al Castelletto. Traces of this past, such as columns and arches from the side nave, remain visible in the façade and the charming inner courtyard.
Reflections on the potential uses of the palace particularly focus on social purposes. Among the proposed ideas is the creation of spaces dedicated to hostels or community-focused facilities, promoting inclusivity, affordability, and social mobility.
The strategic location of the palace, in the heart of the historic center and just steps away from the Musei di Strada Nuova, offers a unique opportunity to foster synergies with museum and cultural institutions, hosting educational, artistic, and social initiatives. The hope is that the future buyer will transform Palazzo Galliera into a vibrant and meaningful space for the community, bringing renewed significance to this hidden treasure.
Additionally, a feasibility study was conducted by the OBR Open Building Research architectural firm, exploring the palace’s potential as a resource for the city. Proposed solutions include the creation of apartments, coworking spaces, art galleries, and libraries.
Palazzo Galliera represents an example of how historical heritage can be transformed into an opportunity for the city’s future.

Palazzo Galliera
Palazzo Galliera, di proprietà di S.P.Im. S.p.A., è un edificio storico risalente all’Ottocento, situato nel cuore di Genova, accanto a Via Garibaldi, tra Palazzo Tursi e Palazzo Bianco. In origine residenza privata, sorge su un sito di grande valore storico: l’antica Chiesa di San Francesco al Castelletto. Tracce di questo passato, come colonne e arcate della navata laterale, sono ancora visibili nella facciata e nel suggestivo cortile interno.
Le riflessioni sul potenziale utilizzo del palazzo si focalizzano in particolare su finalità di carattere sociale. Tra le ipotesi proposte vi è la creazione di spazi dedicati a ostelli o strutture con scopi comunitari, in grado di promuovere inclusività, accessibilità economica e mobilità sociale.
La posizione strategica del palazzo, nel cuore del centro storico e a pochi passi dai Musei di Strada Nuova, offre un’opportunità unica per sviluppare sinergie con istituzioni museali e culturali, ospitando iniziative educative, artistiche e sociali. L’auspicio è che il futuro acquirente possa trasformare Palazzo Galliera in un luogo vivo e significativo per la comunità, restituendo centralità a questo tesoro nascosto.
È stato inoltre elaborato uno studio di fattibilità affidato allo studio di architettura OBR Open Building Research, che ha esplorato le potenzialità del palazzo come risorsa per la città. Tra le soluzioni proposte figurano la realizzazione di appartamenti, spazi di coworking, gallerie d’arte e biblioteche.
Palazzo Galliera rappresenta un esempio di come il patrimonio storico possa trasformarsi in un’opportunità per il futuro della città.

Il progetto del Waterfront di Levante, ideato e donato alla città dall’architetto Renzo Piano, sta cambiando il volto dell’ex fiera di Genova ed entro il 2023 restituirà un affaccio marittimo alla città creando un nuovo quartiere urbano, uno spazio vivo, rigenerato e fruibile per tutti i cittadini, connesso al tessuto urbano da percorsi pedonali e ciclabili.

Eletto dall’UNESCO come uno dei mi-gliori progetti di rinnovo avviati nel 2020 in tutto il mondo, il Masterplan “Il Parco del Polcevera e il Cerchio Rosso” è uno dei simboli più evidenti di questo processo di rigenerazione, in termini di immagine e di sostanza.
