Genova more and more connected: from Capital of Supercomputing to Capital of Data
The Municipality of Genova, the Liguria Region, Liguria Digitale, Confindustria Genova, CNR, the Italian Institute of Technology, the University of Genova, Leonardo S.p.A., Istituto Gaslini IRCCS, Policlinico San Martino IRCCS Hospital, Genova Chamber of Commerce, Mnesys and RAISE have signed the memorandum of understanding ‘Genoa Capital of High Performance Computing for Biomedical Research’. This agreement aims to transform Genova into an international centre of excellence for biomedical research and technology, with the aim of expanding into other areas of development, using high-performance computing technologies.
The protocol aims to create economic growth, improve people's health and quality of life through the application of advanced technologies such as digitisation and artificial intelligence.
Genova does not want to stop here: it boasts a complete supply chain, consisting of universities, research centres of excellence, specialised companies, public support and a solid infrastructure base (including HPC infrastructures such as the Davinci-1 and Franklin supercomputers, which will be used to explore new frontiers in technological and healthcare research) that allows Genova to claim the title of “Capital of Data”, attracting major European gigafactories dedicated to artificial intelligence, becoming the “Capital of Data”, in continuity with the city's connection strategy, which already has submarine cables connecting it to over 5 billion people around the world and over 40 years of tradition in software development, digital expertise and cybersecurity.
This strategic and technological positioning makes Genova a reference point for innovation and research, consolidating its leading role on the international scene.
