From the former locomotive depot area to Silicon ValPolcevera
On 17 March, the master plan for the recovery, enhancement and new use of the former locomotive depot area in Piazza Facchini in Genova Rivarolo was presented. This ambitious project, developed by the offices of the municipal ‘Urban Regeneration’ structure in collaboration with the ‘IOTTI + PAVARANI ARCHITETTI and MANCINO _ Architettura del Territorio’ studios, is the result of a participatory process with citizens that began in 2023. The masterplan merges three design scenarios, also presented in public assemblies in Certosa.
The area of approximately 30,000 square metres will include 10,000 square metres of innovation training centre. A new kindergarten, pre-school, secondary school and state-run experimental technological high school will be built here. This new educational institution will combine humanistic culture with the most advanced digital and energy technologies, offering young people a unique educational experience in Italy.
But that's not all: the area will also be a community centre with co-working spaces, study areas, a gymnasium-auditorium, a skate park, a small arena and a mini-basketball court. All this will be easily accessible thanks to a large underground car park with 250 parking spaces.
In addition, the area will include 12,600 square metres of urban park, helping to make Genova even greener and more liveable.
This new ‘Silicon Valley’ in Valpolcevera will be a place where research and innovation meet with education and sociality, creating synergies for Genova's technological innovation, while enhancing Valpolcevera and the entire city.’
